There is so much beauty in the world.
Some too fast to process.
Some too slow to perceive.
But sometimes we’re lucky and catch a glimpse.
Inspired by Japanese artist Rei Naito's works, Grace (2009) and Matrix (2010) I taped a trash bag to the roof of my balcony just to observe how it would move. As the wind blowed the plastic would sway, sometimes gentle, sometimes violent. Just like watching a campfire, it had an enduring appeal to it. It felt alive. The wind had always been there, but the addition of the plastic gave the wind a form I could now see. I then photographed the plastic across many weeks and times of day. Over time more wrinkles and folds would naturally appear in the plastic, and these became the patterns and textures that filled my photos. This energy that I was capturing, had always been present, it just needed to be passed through the right medium to be viewed.
